Em 13 de Julho de 1839, no fascículo nº 115 de O Panorama, podia
ler-se a seguinte declaração, no final do primeiro de vários artigos sobre o Cristianismo: "Tendo deixado por motivo de negócios pessoaes o logar de principal redactor deste jornal, e desejando, todavia, contribuir com os meus poucos cabedaes para uma publicação, que me persuado tem feito algum bem à civilização nacional, continuarei a escrever, quando outras ocupações mo permitam, vários artigos, que serão sempre assignalados com as iniciaes do meu nome. A. Herculano."
