A Escola como Memória do Futuro

From the recognition of the antinomous character which pervades the question of education, we will seek the way Agostinho da Silva links his optimistic Rousseauism to his militant Platonism in his idea of School. Apparently paradoxical, the School then rises in all its splendour. Rather than as a molding mechanism, as a place for recovering the preacquired or for (mere) reinvention of the past, the School is seen as Memory of the Future, a study community where the teacher teaches what he does not know yet and the student remembers what one day she/he will know. It is a laical temple where one expects to see "that for which we carne blossom" (Agostinho da Silva, Sete Cartas a um Jovem Filósofo, p.53).
