Since 1980, the academic production concerning the book and the reading in Brazil Colony has developed in a pronounced way. At first, this article review those studies, showing the perspective which is shared, and presenting their presence even before the foreigner inquiry circulation which today serve us as pattern. Later on, analyses the research done by the predecessors, whose works were published before the decade of the eighty of last century and following, the works done later. To put an end to, proposes a research about the novel.
