Abstract

Since 1980, the academic production concerning the book and the reading in Brazil Colony has developed in a pronounced way. At first, this article review those studies, showing the perspective which is shared, and presenting their presence even before the foreigner inquiry circulation which today serve us as pattern. Later on, analyses the research done by the predecessors, whose works were published before the decade of the eighty of last century and following, the works done later. To put an end to, proposes a research about the novel.

Professor adjunto do Departamento de História da UFMG, Doutor e mestre em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo, é Bolsista de Produtividade do CNPq e pesquisador do projeto temático "Caminhos do Romance no Brasil: séculos XVIII e XIX", financiado pela FAPESP e coordenado pela Profa. Márcia Azevedo Abreu (Unicamp).
