Depois da Independência de 1822, a presença portuguesa no Brasil fez-se, principalmente, com a emigração. Houve, é bem verdade, algumas influências literárias, ou momentos cívicos partilhados entre os dois países, como, por exemplo, quando da 1 ª travessia aérea do Atlântico, por Gago Coutinho e Sacadura Cabral. Mas, o que mais marcou, ao longo destes 180 anos, no cenário nacional, as ligações entre os dois países foram os portugueses que vieram realizar no Brasil seus projetos de vida.
