Um dentre os muitos aspectos a chamar atenção na Peregrinação é a longa e minuciosa descrição que Mendes Pinto faz da China. Lida com pouca atenção, pode-se ficar com o sentimento de que o ciclo de espantosas viagens realizadas por seu autor podia muito bem ali ter chegado ao fim, tal é a quantidade de maravilhas que encontra naquele grandioso e incomparável reino, verdadeira utopia oriental.
