Cidadania e Educação: sonho e realidades. Agostinho da Silva, um percursor exemplar, em Portugal e no Brasil, de uma efectiva educação para a cidadania

Nowadays we are living an era of explicit crisis of world' s citizenship: there' s a crisis on values, a clear unevenness among men, a huge lack of social cohesion and systematic abuses to people's dignity. The parental, civic and political societies do not know how to deal with the growing and worrying levels of anxiety, commotion, intolerance and growing disruption and violence. Thus, the rising question is: how can we deal with this issue that seems to be ready to get installed in our families, in our schools, in our society and all over the world? From these questions we shall present a set of issues dealing with educacional projects on citizenship organized under a concise lifelong educational plan which was undertook by Agostinho-George Agostinho Baptista da Silva - in Portugal (1924-1944; 1969-1994) and in Brazil (1944-1969), in the frame of the total respect and unconditional defence of the rights of each person, of social cohesion, of cultural diversity and of respect and the implementation of the democratic values. After presenting some notes on Agostinho's biography, as well on some of his Complete works, we'll present his project for the formation of a society of greater discernment, of more solidarity and of greater conscientiousness. A society of values that Agostinho and we all long for in our present world, as well as for all of our Portuguese speaking countries.
