Cain, the last novel published in his lifetime by José Saramago, recovers a reading of the biblical text as if to ratify the idea of man’s disagreements with the sphere of the divine. But beyond his desacralizing and often sarcastic vision, cain is above all a character who crosses spaces and times that can only be experienced in fiction and who transforms his condemnation to continue wandering into a project to stay alive to bear witness for humanity, thus becoming a kind of double of his author.
